Japan’s SMBC and Asuene to offer decarbonisation management solutions
SMBC and Asuene floated plans to expand globally.
Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) has entered into a strategic alliance with Asuene, a cloud platform provider, with the aim of advancing decarbonisation and ESG management in Japan and globally.
The alliance expands on SMBC and Asuene’s strategic partnership, which saw SMBC offering ASUENE ESG– an ESG evaluation cloud solution developed by Asuene– beginning October 2023. Both SMBC and Asuene offer GHG visualization cloud services in Japan.
SMBC will work with Asuene to offer decarbonisation management solutions based on data; business matching that leverages SMBC’s global customer base; and various types of financing.
“We are receiving an increasing number of inquiries from many companies regarding how to utilize the visualized GHG-related data and how to identify specific measures to reduce emissions.Through this alliance, we will be able to better understand the concerns of these companies and accompany them on the journey toward decarbonization and sustainability management,” SMBC said in a press release.
SMBC and Asuene also floated plans to expand globally.
“Towards this goal, we will expand our client base to be recognized as the No.1 in the Asian region, where we both have a strong presence, and aim to become the top decarbonization management partner in the global market,” SMBC stated.
SMBC has been ramping up its ESG-related activities in recent months. In May, the bank allotted $64m for activities that create social value.
