BEA takes action against another fraudulent website
BEA reported the existence of the fraudulent website to the Hong Kong Police and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
The Bank of East Asia announced that the BEA Group has no affiliation whatsoever with the Internet website operating under the URL www.hk-beauk.com, and will take any action deemed necessary and appropriate to protect the reputation of the Bank and the interests of its customers and the general public.
BEA emphasized that the Bank will never ask customers for their login information or passwords by email or phone, or any other electronic device.
BEA also warned customers and members of the public not to click on any URL or hyperlink embedded in an email to access any of the Bank’s services.
A BEA statement said, "All BEA Internet-based services may be accessed safely and securely through the Bank’s homepage at www.hkbea.com (for customers in Hong Kong) or www.hkbea.co.uk (for customers in the UK)."
"Customers should always ensure that they are accessing the proper BEA website before entering login information," BEA added.
This is not the first time that BEA has been pestered by a website masquerading as one of its own.
In November 2006, BEA alerted customers and the general public that the BEA Group has no affiliation whatsoever with the Internet website operating under the URL www.boeauk.com.
