BPI opens first branch powered by solar energy
Intends to equip more branches with solar arrays.
Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) President Cezar Consing inaugurated the branch located along Ayala Extension in Makati City. The solar power system intends to cut the bank’s reliance on grid electricity use by 20%.
The solar power system consists of solar panels with a 5 kilowatt peak (kWp) capacity. It has already generated 408 kWp of energy and was installed by Solarus Partners, Inc, BPI's solar panel provider. BPI is the Philippines’ second largest bank.
Consing said the solar powered branch is one of the many sustainability strategies the company is planning to pursue over the years. He said the bank plans to install solar panels to more branches in the coming years.
