New Zealand's ASB enables contactless purchases via smartwatch
A partnership with wearable firm Garmin is set to provide on-the-go customers with the digital option.
New Zealand’s ASB has teamed up with wearable device firm Garmin to enable contactless purchases via a compatible Garmin smartwatch.
Customers only need to upload their cards unto a Garmin smartwatch, create a four digit pin to ensure security and can easily proceed to enjoy purchases with a tap.
“When you’re on-the-go the last thing you want to do is fumble with your phone, cards or cash. Garmin Pay removes that hassle, giving our ASB Visa customers another convenient and secure way to pay,” said ASB general manager for payments Matt Bartlett.
Garmin Pay is available on the latest Garmin vivoactive 3 smartwatch and Garmin Forerunner 645M and 645 for ASB customers with either, an ASB Visa Debit or credit card, and can be downloaded through the Garmin Connect Mobile app.
The technology also enables customers to temporarily block a card they may have lost or misplaced as well as access more than one card and easily change it at the checkout.
“The flexibility and convenience provided by wearable devices, that are enabled by contactless technology, shows how connected devices are fundamentally changing the way New Zealanders shop and pay. Together with innovative partners such as ASB, we’re working to challenge today’s understanding of convenience, with the aim of creating totally seamless secure commerce experiences,” said Visa country manager for New Zealand and South Pacific Marty Kerr.
