Alipay+ adds 9 int’l e-wallets to Thai ecosystem ahead of CNY
A large number of the 1 million tourists visiting Thailand for the holidays are from China.
Alipay+ has added nine more international e-wallets in Thailand, enabling overseas tourists to shop in 14,500 7-Eleven stores in the country.
The new e-wallets include: MyPB by Public Bank Berhad (Malaysia), Naver Pay and Toss Pay (South Korea), Changi Pay and OCBC Digital (Singapore), GCash (Philippines), Hipay (Mongolia), MPay (Macao SAR, China), and Tinaba (Italy).
The Chinese payments giant is expecting that 1 million foreign tourists will visit Thailand during the Lunar New Year or Chinese New Year (CNY) holidays. This is estimated to generate $800m (THB28.4b) for the local economy.
A large number of arrivals are expected to be tourists from mainland China nad Hong Kong, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
In anticipation for the increase in visitors, 7-Eleven Thailand and Alipay+ are jointly launching an exclusive promotion for Alipay+ partner users, with coupons of up to 50% savings.
