Alipay Q1 transactions by Chinese tourists in SG nearly doubles
Total user transactions in March averaged 45% of the tally in 2019.
Alipay reported that its application recorded total transaction value by Chinese tourists in Singapore nearly doubled in the first three months of 2023.
The digital platform said “growth was driven by China reopening its borders for international travel and resuming group tours to Singapore during the first quarter of this year,”
“Singapore continues to rank as one of the top travel destinations for Chinese tourists, and we are encouraged by the strong support from the local brands and merchants in Singapore who are partnering closely with Alipay to enhance their offerings and services to bring great experiences to Chinese travellers,” said Cherry Huang, general manager of Alipay+ offline merchant services, Ant Group.
The value per transaction averaged 40% growth, mainly driven by tourists consuming more luxury brands and heavy consumption in shopping malls in the first quarter.
Alipay clients that made transactions in March this year also grew to 45% of the average number in 2019.
Alipay+ is developed by Ant Group, which is owned and operated by Alipay.
