Temasek in search of energy investments
Data from Temasek showed that resources and energy accounted for 6% of its portfolio as of the end of March.
Temasek Holdings said it will keep looking for potential investments in both sectors after doubling its exposure in both. Data from Temasek showed that resources and energy accounted for 6% of its portfolio as of the end of March, up from 3% at the end of the previous financial year.
In the 12 months ending this March, Temasek invested US$1.6 billion in FTS International, a U.S. shale company. Other recent Temasek deals include a US$368 million investment to help fund U.S.-based Cheniere Energy's first liquefied natural gas export plant and an undetermined stake in Venari Resources, an oil and gas exploration company in the Gulf of Mexico.
Analysts said sovereign investors have steered away from financial services and into other sectors such as energy and infrastructure following huge investment losses in Western banks during the 2008 financial crisis.
"We will continue to look for opportunities in energy and resources," said Chia Song Hwee, Temasek's head of strategy.
